Happy International Day of Education!
(The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as the International Day of Education in celebration of the role of education in peace and development. This year marks the fifth year of celebration, with the theme ‘to invest in people, prioritize education’. The International Day of Education on 24 January 2023 is dedicated to Afghan women and girls. )
Today, we celebrate the power of education to promote peace and sustainable development. It is more important than ever to ensure that all students have access to quality education.
I want to take this opportunity to make some recommendations on how we can support education on this special day:
- Invest in education: Education is a fundamental human right and key to achieving many of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We must invest in education to build a better future for all.
- Support educators: Educators play a crucial role in shaping the future of our society. We must support them with the resources and training they need to be successful.
- Embrace technology: Technology has played a vital role in keeping education going during the pandemic. Let’s continue to explore and embrace new technologies that can improve access to education for all.
- Promote lifelong learning: Learning doesn’t end with formal education. We must promote lifelong learning opportunities for all individuals to continue to grow and develop.
- Address inequalities: Education inequalities persist globally, especially for marginalized communities. Let’s work together to address these inequalities and ensure all students have access to quality education.
On this International Day of Education, let us commit to supporting education and ensuring all students have the opportunity to succeed. Happy International Day of Education!
